Stove Works is an alternative art space that aims to serve the Chattanooga community through the production, exhibition, and education of contemporary art. Its robust artist in residence program, which hosts over 70 artists each year generates meaningful exchange and reflection, providing opportunities to learn from the experiences of others and to give voice to a range of issues and constituents. In addition to living accommodations, communal art spaces, and workshops, Stove Works has implemented a dynamic Critic(s)-in-residence program to generate thoughtful, on-going critique that specifically pertains to each artist’s practice. Stove Works aims to leverage its position as the only artist residency in the state of Tennessee in order to catalyze the cultural ecosystem of the Southeast and further advance the national discourse on contemporary art.
